Mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness changes the way one experiences life, one can focus better, reduce stress and be resilient to the challenges of daily life.

The concept of mindful living has been around for thousands of years, its origins can be traced back to the birth of yoga in ancient India. A recent reprise of interest in mindfulness is secondary to the mounting scientific evidence backing its efficacy. Mindful living is a simple concept, all one has to to do is to be aware with  compassion, curiousity and openness to experiences, feelings and emotions. 

Our minds are distracted easily and our "presence" is often missing in our own daily lives. We often dwell in the past or try to prepare or anticipate the future unaware that the present second is our only "alive" moment.


We constanly live in what is a "doing mode", we are always busy doing things, reading, writing, walking, talking, driving etc. We do things automatically, forgeting to experience the world and thus making our lifes dull and boring.



Our doing modes are charecterized by thoughts about the past or future, constant trying to fix things, habitual thoughts and behaviour, avoidance of difficult thoughts and the blind beleif that every thought we have is real .


In the "being mode", we live in the current moment, seeing and appreciating thoughts, feelings and experiences allowing us to question difficult thoughts and  and act consciously.


Balancing the being and doing modes is what mindfulness is all about, it will lead to clarity of thought and an appreciation of the magical experience of life.


Mindfulness practices and exercises have been proven by modern scientific methods to  improve immunity, reduce stress and improve quality of life. It can help in the management of a number of physical and mental illnesses ranging from diabetes to depression.
