” Happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being which can be defined by, among others, positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. “
Over thousands of years, human society has learned to make “happiness” restricted and conditional. While most of our animal relatives seem entirely satisfied if their basic needs for food, shelter, security and love are met. However, humans need a lot more: intimate relationships, beautiful girl/boy friends, powerful jobs, fast cars and even space travel can provide us only with a short acting dose of vitamin happy. We are taught as children that happiness can be achieved once you fulfill a certain role or complete a specific task. What begins as happiness that accompanies success in school, becomes an obsessive need for success in everything you do to remain happy. These rules that we make, constrict happiness into physically attainable goals. The child who believes that a bicycle will keep him happy forever is as naive as the millionaire who is working toward his first billion.
